SHAYLA'S FIRST CHOPPER FLIGHT

I guess by now you have all heard about the drama this morning. The boss said he was very proud of the way that Karen & Kirsty spoke to & calmed Pam after little Shayla had a seizure. Pam was almost ready to leave to take Shayla to the Townsville hospital ( about 3 hour trip !! ) but Kirsty & Karen re-assured her & convinced her to wait for the Royal Flying Doctor chopper !!

But I just thought I should let you all know that it was me, Jack the dog, that saved the day !!??

I felt something inside me stiring this morning so I woke the boss at 6am instead of the usual 6.30am ..... using my usual prompt ..... a wet nose in the boss's face !!??

I told him we needed to go up to Pam's house pronto ..... like .... get a move on pal !!??

McKenzie was sitting on the front porch & she was looking really concerned ..... then Pam came rushing out & told the boss that Shayla just had a seizure !! So the boss rang Kirsty & Karen & they spoke to Pam. I was really concerned because Shayla is a good mate to me ..... she always throws the ball to me when she gets home from school !! So I went over to McKenzie & told her that everything would be alright ..... I said .... " Karen knows how to handle these situations because of her experiences with the kids in her Special Ed class ..... & Kirsty is the best emergency Registered Nurse bar none !! "

Later on before the chopper arrived, Shayla started to brighten up a bit & she really smiled big time when I told her she was going for a helicopter ride !!! ..... she wanted me to go with her but I told her that they don't let dogs in the chopper !!??

Shayla was really excited when the rescue helicopter landed ..... she said .... " Jack .. I"m going for a ride in that big chopper .... wish you could come with me !! "

When the chopper was circling to land, I rushed out to the paddock & signalled to the pilot with my paws & tail to show the pilot where to land !!!

After they landed, the pilot & co-pilot jumped out & said ... " Thanks for guiding us in Jack .... we couldn't have done it without you mate..... but sorry about all the dust mate !!?? "

When Pam & Shayla plus the 2 pilots & 2 paramedics moved towards the chopper, I yelled out " How about a photo guys !! " Shayla gave me a big wave & said .... see you Jack .... see you later Tommy. I heard Pam say to the boss .. " You're a champion Tommy !! "

The boss replied ... " That's OK Pam ..... but it's Jack & Kirsty & Karen who saved the day !!!!!! "

The boss gave Pam a note with Kirsty's mobile number just in case she needed to talk to someone while she was waiting in hospital.

Later on the boss told me that Shayla had another seizure during the trip to Cairns regional hospital ..... but I had already told the para-medics to look after my mate really well .... so everything was OK. Before that, I heard Karen tell the boss that there was a 50% chance that Shayla would have another seizure !!!! So .... thank you Kirsty & Karen for talking to Pam & saving my mate Shayla !!

I don't even want to think about what would have happened if Pam had left to drive Shayla to hospital !!!!

Later on, Pam rang to say that Shayla was in Emergency having lots of tests done to try to find what was causing the seizures !!

Apart from that, the boss & I have been busy as usual ..... shifting cattle with the semi .... & heaps of other jobs .... but we like it !!!!!

The boss broke his little toe when a bull stepped on his foot .... just missed the steel toe-cap !!??

But he didn't tell anyone about it apart from me !!
